Tamagotchi is a virtual pet care toy from 1996. It was extremely popular, since it taught responsibility. It is a small egg shaped toy that has three buttons and a screen. You raise a pet, and have to feed, and play with it. It can die, which forces you to actually care for it. Almost 30 years later, and new ones are still being made! I discoverd them when I was younger, and I personaly am still a fan too!
I am actually not sure what got me into tamagothci. I think when I was really young I saw a youtube video revewing the tamagotchi on, which got me somewhat into tamas. While I was really getting in to the tamagothci stuff, some girls would bring original remakes to schoo. In 3-5th grade there was actually kinda an incedent with one.
So what happened was basically, One day, maybe during gym or something, my somewhat friend and all of her friends were playing with some original re-make tamas. They would leave them in the windowsill while they had to run and stuff. Now of course I was basically stalking them to try to get the courage to say that I tamagotchi. But I never said anything. Cut to lunch, and one of the girls says something like "your good with tech, help me fix this". She then handed me her tama. Now this was an original tama re-make, and you have to keep in mind, I had only ever seen the Hello Kitty nano, and the tamagotchi on in real life, so I had no idea what the original re-make was supposed to look like. However there was one issue... The thing was absolutely waterlogged, like got thrown in the ocean type of waterlogged. There were literally bubbles inside it, since water got trapped in it. Seeing this, I knew it was a lost cause, but I tried my best. If I could just unscrew the back, I could have tried to dry the insides. However, schools don't typically have screwdrivers lying around, so I couldn't do anything. Rip translucent original remake tama /:
I currently own 7 tamas. Most of them are the modern ones made within the last few years, but one of them is an actual original from the first run of Tamagotchi.
The origins of all of my tamas are quite boring, but some are cool. Most of them I bought (Pix, On, Uni, Hello Kitty) However my to originals are cool, one being an original, or at least an older one, because it belonged to my dad. I have no idea if it works or not, since we have not tried to put batterys in it. The other original is a re-make, that was given to me from a friend. She gave it to me because I was wearing my tamas on a lanyerd to school, and she could tell I liked them.
Tamagotchi Uni
Tamagotchi uni is a very interesting tama. It's a watch, and it can connect to the internet, and have online events. While the premise is cool,it ends up becoming stale, since events rarely or even never happen. It is also (of my knowledge) the first tama to have paid content, which shows it was so half baked, they had to add more. And the paid content, from what I know , isn't even worth it. It allows you to raise new tamas. You would expect they are good care tamas, which means they don't die as fast... But NO they are bad care, which means they die EXTREMELY fast, which is incredibly annoying. I only bought the free one, so it may be different for the paid ones, but still. If you want a cool, and or simple tama, and you don't really care about it dying, then it would be a good fit. It definitely has its perks, and it's still a good one, it's just that there are MANY better ones. And to talk about price, it's about 60 bucks last time I checked, which is the price for almost all color screen tamas. So it is a bit pricey, but it is very good quality.
The og, or its remake, is pretty cool. I am sure that there are some people that love it a lot, but I am personally not a fan. Some people will probably be mad at me for saying this. I think it's a fine tama, it's just that it's not the best for raising a long term one. It's also really loud when it dies, which can be an issue. I really didn't use this tama much, since it dies so fast and I feel bad, but I'm sure if I use it longer it may grow on me. I used this one for such a short time, there's really not much I could say on it. Its price is pretty agreeable, the re-make being 18-22 bucks. However the actual original can be a lot more pricey.
(ok so while researching this, I discovered they re-released this tama. However I have the og, which may be different, keep that in mind.) Tamagotchi nano. Tama nano, by no means is a bad tama, in fact I would say it's great! Some may be different then the one I am talking about (hello kitty nano) so do keep that in mind. The Hello Kitty Tama nano is very small, like TINY. This can be a problem because it is very easy to lose. But don't worry about it dying while you lose it, because a good care adult on this bad boy can last up to 8 hours on a good day, and will only be sick. It's so good at living, that through my 3 years of on and of using it, it has never died once. And even if you didn't trust my word, you can always pause it just by starting to set the time but then just staying in that menu. There is also a good ending, where hello kitty takes your tama to London. This is basically having you tama die, since it's gone after that... BUT DONT THINK OF IT LIKE THAT!! I'm sure mametchi is fine in London. The only reason it's so low on the list is because of its simplicity. It only has one, maybe 2 minigames from what I remember. And there isn't much else to do with it. The tamagotchi nano is not really meant for tamagotchi fans, it's meant for fans of other things to get a cute little gadget with their favorite characters. My only real complaint is that the way it looks, you would think that hello kitty would be the tama you cared for, but that's not the case sadly. Its price is also pretty agreeable, with one being 19-20 bucks at least.
The tamagotchi pix is a newer tama, being the third (Fourth now!) newest if I remember. Its a decent tama, and I do like it. I just feel that it gets stale over time. I have the first release purple pix. However there was a re-make a year later, being the Pix Party. That one was apparently a lot better, but I never got it. Fun story about the pix, before I had gotten it, I thought pretty negativity about it for some reason. However at some point I saw a play, and after it I actually saw someone with one. They also had a purple, and to this day they are the first person I have seen in real life with a modern tama. Respect. Anyways, that was what had inspired me to get the pix. The pix's main gimmick is, well taking pictures. It has a small, bad quality camera slapped on it. The shutter button makes a really nice click too. It also has touch sensitive buttons, that really suck. They made them s you can like slide stuff or something, but no. The screen is a color screen. One thing that is interesting, is that since it has a camera, special event items would be given out with qr codes. However this was exploited, because people discovered every single items qr code, so now their are many websites that allow you to get any item. There is also a way to hack you tama through qr codes, but its long and complecated and I am not doing that. It being a color screen means that its price is 50, 60 bucks, but I got mine for super cheap, it being only 30!
While it definitely shows its age, and it is a bit slow and old. Its still so peak, trust. The tamagotchi on has 3 defining features that make it so amazing, and more. The first thing, is that it is the first color screen tama. (well there was more before it, but their rare and expensive.) This already makes it cool, but what's cooler is its main gimmick. Genes. Basically this tamas whole thing is when you marry it off, you get a unique tama with both parents genes. For example, if you married kupatchi and lovelicthi, then the tama may be green, with lovelicthi's hair. In my opinion, this is really cool. Another thing that was cool, was that it has inferred communication, and the reason for that is because it HAD and app that you could use to hang out with other users. Emphasis on had, since the app got shut down only a few years after it came out. However there are many mockups on pc. Speaking of that,The third cool thing on this is that, since this tama has infrared communication capability's, it can have custom firmware put on it, such as new areas and items. You can also just design your own custom tama on pc, and then put it on the on. People have gone as far as literally drawing new tamas, which I definitely want to do one day.
This tamagotchi is currently my newest. I havent really used it that much since I am still in school and dont have the time to deal with it, but from what i have seen, its pretty cool! I love the gene mixing, even if its a lot more simple in comparison of the on. And also I LOVE THE NEW TAMAS THERE SO CUTE OMG <3!
this tamagotchi is pretty intressting, but I do have some minor complaints that being that A, From how long i used it, it isint really long term. Like yeah you can raise new tamas, and there is a small amount of gene mixing, but theres like no reason to even raise new tamas. My other complaint is that it has somewhat bad power control, with my batteries dying within my first or second week of owning it. Its still really charming though, being able to name your planet (I named mine aquastar) the high quality screen, and the scroll wheel is super cool!
[i dont have a pic yet ): ]
Whilst traveling the lands of san fransisco I found a random gift shop with a bunch of stupid stuff in it. However I am a simple person, I see tamagotchi, and I buy it. This led to me owning an obviously fake tamagotchi connection. Its a miracle that that peice of junk even turned on not going to lie. Once turning it on, it acted quite diffrently then a normal tamagotchi, for this one just let you choose which "tama" you wanted. The reason I put quotaions around tamas is because more then half of them werent even tamagotchis, they were just random sprites of animals and a few digimon and pokemon. After this, It made me choose a name for it. There were only like 5 or 6 names, so I just choose Bob. Then it made me set the time, and that was it. I now owned a shrimp named bob!
Only 1 issue however... The reset button was in a strange position, that being on the front with the other buttons. This made the unit very susceptible to accedently resseting. Also just putting it down too hard reset it.
For the tamagotchi itself, its just a re-skin of the original tamagotchi. Its so lazily re-skinned that half of the time its not even your tama on the screen, its just the baby form of a tamagotchi. You may have thought that it would be a tamagotchi connection, since thats what the shell and logo say it is. However the IR port is just a peice of plastic.
